By: A. Fletcher

Dog Breeding nowadays can either be your occupation, profession, Hobby, or may be it is your business. Either of the above-mentioned reasons it could be, but it is still one of the fun things.

This article will highlight some basics information you need to know on ‘Dog breeding’.

Before considering ‘dog breeding’ you need to be aware of Pedigree Research. Pedigree research will prepare you to understand well the positive and negative aspects of ‘breeding’. For breeding it is important that you understand and consider the compatibility for each dog’s pedigree. Selecting strengths to offset weaknesses helps. You have to be careful in choosing a right dog to breed, be picky about your selection.

The above statement alone will get you hunting and finding a suitable candidate or should I say ‘Dog’ for the breeding activity to take place. One more thing is to understand that you are not working alone for choosing a right dog; rather you also have to work closely with a knowledgeable person, who would guide you to the right owners for the right dogs.

There are people, who are quiet emotionally taken by ‘Dogs’ that look cute, this is a bad thing. Rather a cute dog necessarily doesn’t make it cute you have to check if they disqualify for the tendency of overbites, rabies or any medical check up needed for ‘Dog’s fitness’.

Before breeding you would need to have medical fitness test for your bitch and also for the dog that you have chosen to breed with. Medical compatibility is very important, before considering to breed. Take enough orientation from the vets and identify the percentage of success when you breed the dog.

Be honest and true to yourself, if your dog is incompatible for breeding, or is dysfunctional. You don’t want to risk it, so it is very important to be living in reality rather than being emotional or selfish

As human beings suffer from hereditary problems, so dogs does the same. Every breed is different and hence the potential problems related to every breed can differ from each other. You need to also perform a research on your breed and find out what common problems would the breed have compared to the hereditary problems for the dog you have decided for breeding. In this process, it is also important to research on the particular bloodlines you are going to use to see if they are prone to any problems you would want to know or screen for the problems before going further into ‘breeding process’.

There are people who neglect this important aspects either for the consideration of being selfish and just having money anyways by selling the puppies, or either they are so impatient to go through these procedures to find out dog’s fitness. When in case of human beings when we don’t neglect these minute details, than why would we want to neglect minute details with your pets? Even if it is for your business, it is important to be considerate and fair.
