Dog breeding is mating of carefully selected dogs so as to imbue the litter with pre determined and specific characteristics. People with sound knowledge of canine anatomy, health, training and behavior do it in a scientific manner

Breeding a good litter starts before the mating itself. Proper veterinary care, screening for genetic disorders, regular exercise and good nutrition is essential for the bitch at all times. Then a proper pair is selected for the bitch such that v its defects are neutralized b the mating partner and does not affect its positive attributes. Pre-breeding health tests must be done to assure the dog is proper shape and does not have any parasites. With vet check ups and experience the period of Estrus will be known and mating is allowed in this period. Human assistance might be needed in mating with young males mating is done from 10th to 14th day. No attempts must be made to separate when both partners are tied as it can injure both dogs.

Once pregnancy is confirmed a vet must be consulted to know the food and other requirements for the bitch. The dog must neither be over fed nor under fed. A well-balanced nutritious diet is adequate and supplements must never be more than 10% of total diet. A big warm place must be chosen for whelping and an emergency contact of vet must be available in case of complications. The puppies must be cared for well and must not be separated for first two weeks. Vet must be consulted on regular basis.
